The Arturo Fuente Hemingway Classic Maduro will be under scrutiny today. It is from the vitola figurado. It has its origin from the Dominican Republic. It is an impressive 7 inches long with a ring gauge of 48. Both the binder and filler are from the Dominican Republic. The wrapper is a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro or CBM. This cigar can be said to be of medium strength. A box of 25 of this cigars retails at $399.95. This impressive cigar is produced by Tabaclera A. Fuente y Cia. The CBM wrapper is dark and plush looking. The figurado shape exhibits highly skilled workmanship.

Once again, I will borrow from Cigar Aficionado system of rating that is based on four factors. These include Flavor, overall impression, smoking characteristics and appearance & construction. I had good company for the evening not to mention a scrumptious dinner as I sat down to review this cigar which essentially meant a superb herf. A herf can be said to be a gathering which is social in nature and is mainly composed of cigar enthusiasts and fans who arrange for a rendezvous to share their passion for cigars. Herfing if I may call it so can happen anywhere (cigar compliant park or bar, tobacco shops and private residences) as long as there are no restrictions on cigar smoking and an adequate quorum of cigar lovers. Guess any cigar would have been rated nicely that night!!

The Arturo Fuente Hemingway Classic Maduro has a nicely done construction with no weak spots whatsoever. The wrapper is taut and blemish free while the figurado shape has every sign of top notch workmanship. The first drew was a bit tight but this was not to be for long as it loosened up pretty fast. The resulting smoke was creamy and pretty thick. The ash was light in color and held up for some time before eventually giving way.

The flavor was nicely blend and very interesting. There was an array of earthy flavors which proved pretty strong and dominant initially. These were interrupted by sweet undertones. The start was characterized by dark chocolate tastes which were interestingly creamy and smooth. Midway through this imposing cigar, there was a taste of vanilla flavor which fizzled out in the last third. The last third of the cigar had an interesting package for me. There was a whiff of bacon flavor which was really authentic.

The Classic Maduro was fun and very engaging, what with its complex flavor regime and an extensive smooth smoke. This is how the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Classic Maduro fared. The overall rating stood at 93%. On the appearance & construction front, it scored an impressive 14 pts which translated to 93% of all points possible. The flavor attained 23 pts which translated to 92% of all points possible. The smoking characteristics and overall impression scored 88% and 97% respectively.

The Classic Maduro is a cigar that is well beyond its time. For all cigar enthusiasts out there, this is a smoke definitely worth trying.
